Hello from Leeds, UK!

April has been an incredibly wonderful month! The weather has warmed up and spring is in the air! Except for the day it snowed. But...I've been hard at work!

Finally, after two years, this is the month I've been waiting for since starting my journey. It was full of in-person fun and creativity - with weekly screen acting classes, student film opportunities, networking, and improv workshops.

The highlight of the month was filming a couple scenes with Collective Media in Manchester. Sam and Lloyd are two incredibly talented filmmakers, and they paired me up with a couple of amazing actors to work with. Hope you enjoy them!

A Teacher in Trouble

In this scene, Mr. Matthews is meeting with student Amy about failing at school. The meeting takes an unexpected turn when Amy...well, you'll just have to watch to find out!

Lip Filler, Inc.

Tony and Stan (S &T Enterprises) have been selling lip filler kits and they're flying off the shelves! We've decided to hire a production company to film a promotional video. We've got some extra kits if you want one. Let me know!

Beautiful Places

Not only does Leeds have some beautiful buildings, but nearby cities like Saltaire and York are equally beautiful! Both towns are less than an hour away by train - and full of history and gorgeous scenery.

Finally...

There are so many opportunities for creative projects here in north England. I've only been here a couple of months, but I feel like I've done more in that short period than in the entire past year!

The best part is that it's just beginning. There's more to do, and I'm excited about the upcoming weeks and months. On June 1st, I'm heading over to Liverpool for the summer. It's about two hours by train. A new city for me here in north England, but more creativity and more fun lies ahead. And I'm sure a Beatles tour is in the works too!

Thanks for following along!

Hello from Leeds, UK!

So, we all know the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland) is a big country. In 2020, I spent six months in London. I knew about the other larger cities in England, but never thought about visiting them at that time - and Covid made travel difficult as well.

This time, I am so glad I chose to explore "up north" (as they call it) - in the city of Leeds. Leeds is the third largest city in the UK (behind London and Birmingham.) The City Centre area is full of life with wonderful restaurants, shops, art, museums - and you always hear music from the many buskers! There are five major universities here, with the University of Leeds having the highest student population. So there definitely is a youthful vibe here!

There is no doubt that things are definitely different...

Life is Change

My life is full of change since I'm always on the move. The recent move from Paris to the UK really got me thinking about change - because it's so different here. Not only visually in terms of the landscape, but also in terms of my day-to-day activities.

In this video I talk about two different types of change:

  1. Change that we choose

  2. Change that is forced upon us

Everyone goes through change at some point in their lives. It's inevitable. So, I believe that we need to trust that everything will be okay in the end, and try to be at peace with change.

Life is all about change because nothing stays the same forever - and change is just a part of life.

Improv Comedy

I really enjoy Improv. I'm not sure I'm all that great at it, but I do have fun. There's nothing better than having a bunch of laughs with others. So, I joined The Discount Comedy Checkout group here in Leeds for a Sunday afternoon "beginning" improv course. It lasted for three Sundays, we ended the course with a show (in front of an audience), and I thought I'd share that with you. I'm not yet ready to join the "Who's Line Is It Anyway" gang, but we all have to start somewhere! 🤣

Music Video Dad

There's an exciting creative vibe happening here, and lots of opportunities to get involved with young film talent from the Universities. One of the film classes at the University of Leeds put out a casting notice for a short film (which was a music video) and I was cast as the "all-business, disappointed father who is unsupportive of his sons decision to pursue a music career." In the video, I'm attending the live rehearsal. Unfortunately, I'm not a "cool" dad - which would be my preference 😎. I'll post the video when it's done, but here are a few pictures of a really fun day!

Beautiful Leeds

There are some really beautiful buildings here in Leeds. Two of the photos below are from the shopping area called Victorian Quarter in City Centre; another is of the Old Post Office; and finally the Leeds City Museum.

Finally...

It's always so nice to arrive in a new place and be able to stay awhile. I'll be here until June 1st, and feel pretty settled in. My Airbnb is comfortable, conveniently near the bus line, and an easy ride into City Centre.

My days are spent at my co-working space working on my social media, looking for acting jobs and other fun opportunities, going to the gym, and discovering the trendy (and old school) restaurants, bars, and pubs around Leeds.

There is so much more to see here in North England, and I'm excited to share that with you in the upcoming months.

Thanks for following along!

Hello from Paris!

I really didn’t know what to expect spending the winter in Paris. Christmas with some family was a given and highlight for sure! Christmas markets? Yes, definitely! Did I also expect some rain? Yes, of course. Chilly temperatures? Yes again.

There is no doubt Paris has much to offer. It’s a very walkable city, so I spent much of my time just wandering through nearby neighborhoods. The baked goods (especially with cinnamon or chocolate) are my favorite, and I definitely indulged. It’s a good thing I joined a gym!

I was hoping to enroll in some acting classes and improv groups, but that didn’t quite pan out. Instead, I just used this time to relax and be a local. My daily visits to the gym kept me healthy and in shape, and I became a regular at a few restaurants and bars. I crossed the Seine and saw the Eiffel Tower every day. This has certainly been a memorable chapter in my life!

Life is a Journey

I know that for me, and many others, it's really easy to get swept up into the "I want it now!" mentality. And social media can often times put us in "compete" mode. All of this can make us feel anxious and stressed, which affects our mental and physical health. In this video, I share a few tips to help remind us (mainly me!) that "Life is a Journey", not a race.

Versailles

Versailles is a wealthy suburb and quick metro ride from central Paris. Many historical events have taken place here, but the main attraction is the Palace of Versailles - which was the home to the Kings of France. I really wanted to see the Hall of Mirrors. Come along on my video adventure!

Jardin du Luxembourg

If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of central Paris, Luxembourg Gardens is the place to go. There are lots of green areas, fountains, statues, promenades, and flowerbeds. What makes this so special is the fun, colorful sailboats you can push around in the water that surrounds a fountain.

Finally...

Paris is now behind me, and it's time to journey on. On March 1, it was onward back to the UK. Last time I was there I stayed just outside of London. This time, I'm spending a few months in Leeds - which is in Northern England. It's about a 2 1/2 hour train ride from London.

Leeds is the 2nd largest city in England, and I chose this area because of the creative opportunities it offers. I'm already enrolled in a Sunday afternoon Improv group, and a weekly evening film acting class!

I'll also get back into a routine by joining a gym - and a coworking space. I've missed spending afternoons in a coworking environment. There are people to meet, along with many networking opportunities. Plus, I just feel like I get more done in a coworking environment rather than at home.

I'm not sure what I'll be exploring in Leeds, but Manchester is only an hour away - and Liverpool isn't far either. There will be plenty for me to share with you!

Thanks for following along!
